Gerona

A beautiful city only one hour away from Barcelona by train, is Gerona.

This city is definitely worth a visit and a train ticket is only 10,- per person one way. The train leaves and arrives at the station ‘Passeig de Gracia’, in the heart of the center.

We stayed at the Doubletree hotel by Hilton, which has a perfect location since it is quiet and has a pool on top of the roof. The rooms are simple but include all basics and the breakfast and bed is great (like all Hilton’s).

The hotel is 10 minutes walking towards the old city part. This part has cozy colourful streets and unique shops which are Spanish. If you want to score something which is not from Zara or H&M but is still stylish, this is the place to be.

A few tips:

• Visit the city walls (Murales de Girona), to see a beautiful city view

• Visit the Cathedral, also known as the cathedral where a part of Game of Thrones is filmed. If you are under 25 years old, you can do a tour for only 5,- (bring your student card)

• Go get some ice cream at Rocambolesc Gelateria, inspired by Willy Wonka, they are pricey but have an amazing taste and are instagrammable too! (See picture above)

• Have dinner at Le Bistrot for the ultimate romantic experience, also shown on the pictures above. The dinner is not expensive and the location is breathtaking. Tip: take a plate with meat and cheese to share and ask for explanations, because the whole menu card is written in Catalan!

• Take a look at the houses by the river Onyar, colourful and different than all other houses in the city.

Easy reachable from Barcelona (the city has an airport as well), nice temperatures, restaurants and shops are not that expensive, photogenic city, romantic and a lot of culture and history

Whenever you go to Gerona, make sure you are in the city for 2 / 3 days only! This is the perfect length of stay.
